    Dewatered residuals from environmental processes including water and wastewater treatment are ideal applications for KWS Shaftless Screw Conveyors.   • Diverter Gates

    KWS Diverter Gates are custom designed to provide a compact and effective means to separate low-solids biosolids during operation of a centrifuge. Typically, low-solids biosolids are characterized by the centrifuge manufacturer as those that result in a main drive torque of less than a defined value. This torque threshold output is used to open and close the diverter gate and allow low-solids biosolids to bypass the downstream process and return to the centrate tank, or as required by the process design. KWS Diverter Gates can be provided with electric or pneumatic actuators to accommodate required opening and closing times, depending upon process requirements.

  • Thermal Screw Processors

    During the processing of many bulk materials, there is a requirement to cool, heat, or maintain a specific product temperature while conveying the product. The desired temperature fluctuations must be calculated and engineered into the system to accomplish the preferred objectives. KWS Heat Transfer Screw Processors are the perfect solution for these applications. Our Heat Transfer Screw Processors indirectly transfer heat to or from the product by introducing a heat transfer medium such as cool water, hot oil or steam through a special trough jacket and/or the pipe and hollow flights of the screw processor. Achieving the specified exit temperature of the product is accomplished by calculating the surface area of the screw processor and designing the system flow to match the heat load requirements of the application.

  • Grit Classifiers

    Untreated wastewater contains inorganic solids such as sand, ash and gravel which is collectively known as grit. The amount of grit in wastewater depends on if the source is from sanitary or other origins. Grit is extremely abrasive, forms plugs and damages pumps and sedimentation tanks if not removed.
    KWS Grit Classifiers consist of a large reservoir hopper with an inclined screw feeder. Wastewater enters the reservoir hopper through a pipe connection. Grit falls out of suspension by gravity and settles to the bottom of the reservoir hopper. The screw feeder rotates very slowly, removes the grit and delivers it to a container or conveyor for disposal. The water discharges over a weir and reenters the wastewater treatment process. In today’s modern water and wastewater treatment plant, grit classifiers are primarily used in the preliminary stages of the wastewater treatment process so downstream equipment is not damaged.

  • Slide Gates

    KWS Slide gates are used in a variety of applications in today’s modern water and waste water treatment facilities for controlling the discharge of dewatered biosolids, grit and screenings. KWS Slide Gates consist of a rigid frame with a slide plate located inside the frame that either opens or closes against the flow of material. The slide plate glides along stainless steel rollers with frictionless bronze bearings. A one-piece neoprene seal prevents unwanted leakage from the gate. The slide plate can be moved by manual, pneumatic, electric or hydraulic means. KWS Slide Gates are a great complement to our material handling and processing equipment.

  • Diverter Valves

    KWS Diverter Valves consist of a rigid valve body with one inlet flange and two outlet flanges. An actuating blade diverts bulk materials to one discharge or the other. The actuating blade is moved either manually or with an electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic actuator. The shaft is supported by two bearings with seals to prevent leakage. KWS Diverter Valves are an efficient method for changing bulk material flow to increase the number of discharge points and increase the flexibility of a process. KWS Diverter Valves allow for greater flexibility in process design and plant layout. With only two moving parts, KWS Diverter Valves are very cost effective and can easily replace conveyors in a process. For example, a single screw conveyor with a diverter valve can discharge bulk materials to one of two downstream processes, eliminating the need for additional downstream conveyors.
