After a PhD in Environmental Virology from Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, Mats Leifels spent two years as a post-doctoral research fellow at the School of Public Health, University of Alberta in Edmonton (Canada) and the Water Institute at the Gilling’s School of Global Public Health, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (NC) before settling in at the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Here, he works on the assessment of microbial community dynamics in drinking water distribution systems and is involved in the establishment, validation, and operation of the SCELSE’s contribution to Singapore’s national SARS-CoV-2 wastewater-based surveillance efforts.
Mats Leifels is also Associated Editor for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene at Elsevier’s International Journal for Hygiene and Environmental Health and active in the IWA specialist group “Health-related Water Microbiology
